Volume to Weight Conversion Table for Common
Ingredients
I have found that for accuracy, ease of
measurement and reduced cleanup when baking it is much easier
to measure ingredients by weight than to measure them by
volume. Ingredients, wet or dry, can be added incrementally to
the bowl without dirtying another measuring cup. Measurements
are also more accurate leading to consistent results from one
time to the next. I have assembled a table of common
ingredients and their weights in grams. For all liquids other
than oil (which is significantly lighter than water) I have
used the weight of water. Although there will be slight
differences for other liquids, I don't think they will be great
enough to affect a recipe. Most food items now list a serving
size and the equivalent in grams so that you can make your own
conversions for items not in the table. I have also found some
variation from brand to brand (in cornstarch for example) so
you should check your ingredient package to see if it
corresponds to the values in the table. For quick reference 1
Cup = 16 Tablespoons = 48 teaspoons.
